Limited Company Accounting Deadlines: What Coventry Directors Need to Know
Limited company accounting deadlines for Coventry directors
A limited company has several different filing and payment deadlines. They are easy to confuse because Companies House and HMRC use different deadlines for annual accounts, Corporation Tax payment and the Company Tax Return. Keeping these dates separate is one of the most important parts of company compliance.
Annual accounts
For an established private limited company, annual accounts are normally due at Companies House 9 months after the end of the company’s financial year. First accounts have a different deadline.
Corporation Tax payment
Corporation Tax is normally due 9 months and 1 day after the end of the Corporation Tax accounting period. This is a payment deadline, not the deadline for filing the Company Tax Return.
Company Tax Return / CT600
The Company Tax Return is normally due 12 months after the end of the Corporation Tax accounting period. The official GOV.UK overview of the different company accounts and tax deadlines is here: Accounts and tax returns for private limited companies.
Why bookkeeping affects year-end work
Year-end accounts and Corporation Tax calculations depend on the underlying bookkeeping. If bank transactions are unreconciled, expenses are missing or director transactions have not been recorded correctly, the year-end process can become slower and more difficult. Regular bookkeeping reduces this pressure and makes it easier to identify issues before the accounts deadline approaches.
